Speech Team Seeks Members

The following is a note from Ms. Thomas, the CGHS Speech Team Coach:

Speech Team Seeks New Members

If you enjoy acting, you might enjoy being a member of Speech Team.

Speech team is a unique activity that allows you to give a speech or act out a scene in front of an audience and compete at tournaments. Every week we practice after school just like any other team. Speech team builds self-confidence, strengthens thinking ability, and develops creativity. Being a member also looks good on a college application. There are 13 events to choose from, ranging from comedy or drama, to radio announcing, poetry, storytelling or discussing current events.

Tournaments are held on Saturdays beginning in the middle of November and continue through February. We will attend 6-8 tournaments during the season. We will not be scheduled every Saturday.

Speech team members are often involved in theatre, music or other school activities. We have brief weekly meetings and you will need to make time to practice at least 30 minutes a week per event. Practice times are flexible-you pick the time that's best for you. You do not have to be an excellent speaker to join the team. In fact, most of the team members start out with no experience in speaking at all.

Our first meeting will be October 16. Watch for posters up in the hallways or listen for announcements stating the time and place. You can also e-mail Ms. Thomas at CGSpeechTeam@aol.com for more information.

The cast list is posted below. The all-cast meeting and read-thru will be Monday after school in the choir room. I will distribute scripts and schedules at that meeting and we will read-thru the script together. Please see me if you have any questions. I look forward to working with all of you.

Jenny: Meghan Wleklinski

Sanford Putnam: Harrison Kuykendall
